This is why all human beings on earth seek our purpose in life when we grow up. We are made that way! The day you left school or college, you had to make one of the most important decisions in life, namely, 'what am I going to do with my life?'!
The truth is that there is an empty and unfulfilled void in every human being's life, which can only be filled by God and will continue until we find our Divine purpose!
God made us that way, and unless we earnestly seek our Divine purpose and calling, our lives will remain unfulfilled and incomplete — no matter how educated, successful, or prosperous we may be in life!
How tragic to see multitudes of people across all walks of life -- rich and poor, young and old -- on the garbage dump of unfulfilled purposes. People grab at every straw in their search for meaning and fulfillment. Some indulge in music, pleasure, sports, work, education, positive thinking, psychology, the internet or money for fulfillment; while others go further and resort to alcohol, drugs, pornography, sex and crime -- only to find that none of these things can bring true and lasting fulfillment!
In order to find true fulfillment in life, you must find God's purpose and calling for your life! If your personal dreams and your Divine purpose are in conflict with each other -- and by nature they are! -- you will never achieve your true purpose! You will die an unfulfilled person -- no matter how educated, rich or prosperous you are! Apart from my personal experience, I can tell you about many true stories I have read, but also of people I have personally known!
Many people confuse calling with a profession or career. What is the difference? A career is the job or profession you have chosen for yourself based on your assessment of your personal talents, abilities and affinities. A calling is the job or profession God has planned for you according to His purpose, and wants to equip, qualify and use you for -- from your mother's womb! Every human being has a Divine calling -- not only pastors, missionaries and some others! However, this does not mean that if you have a passion for a certain profession that it is necessarily God's calling for your life!
The test is -- do you know for sure that you are in the center of God's will for your life? If you are standing only in a profession, your focus will be on life here on earth and temporal things -- if you are in God's calling for your life your focus will be on heavenly and eternal things, even though you are doing a secular work.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ -- His death on the Cross and resurrection from the dead is the central point of the ENTIRE history of the world and is the center of God's plan for the world. Paul Billheimer describes this beautifully as follows: "The universe, including this planet, was created for one purpose: to provide a suitable habitation for the human race. The human race was created in the image and likeness of God for one purpose: to provide an eternal companion for the Son. After the fall and promise of redemption through the coming Messiah, the Messianic race was born and nurtured to bring in the Messiah. And the Messiah came for one intent and only one: to give birth to His Church, thus obtaining His Bride. The Church, then — the called out body of redeemed mankind — turns out to be the central object, the goal, not only of mundane history but of all that God has been doing in all realms, from all eternity." *
This eternal purpose and plan of God for the world, of which the Cross of Calvary is the central point, will reach its fulfilment with the return of Jesus Christ.
I know what you really want to know is what is God's purpose and plan for your job and career, your future spouse and marriage, your home and family, your finances, your battles, problems, crises and all the choices you have to make regarding your earthly life. However, these things are included, and will fall into place once you have found God's primary purpose and plan for your life.
Do you remember the verses in Matthew 6: 25-33 we have quoted earlier? Jesus said, "... seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Emphasis my own.) The Lord does not answer prayers that fall outside the framework of His primary purpose and plan (or the will of God) for man's life!
You might be wondering why then it seems like some people are so prosperous even though they are living with no eternal focus? There are two answers to this question in particular. The first is recorded for us in Psalm 73. We read in Psalm 73: 1-3 and 17: "Truly God is good to Israel, To such as are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; My steps had nearly slipped. For I was envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ... Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end.” (Emphasis my own.) Another important answer is that God judges man's heart and surrenders him to his own errors and foolish desires when he does not seek after God's will with a sincere heart. It is written in Romans 1: 22-24: "Professing to be wise, they became fools, ... Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, ..." (Emphasis mine.) May God forbid that this is anyone's fate reading this article!
The will of God is not something high and foreign, beyond the reach of human understanding! The will of God is simply His revealed purpose and plan for every human being -- also for you! If it is so simple, what then is God's primary purpose and plan for your life?
When one studies the whole Bible and understands God's purpose in creation as we have summarised above, the complete Bible picture falls into place and God's purpose and plan for every person becomes crystal clear. God has a threefold primary purpose and plan for every person on earth -- also for you. This is called the Gospel. This threefold purpose and plan are the following:
Only ONE question now remains, namely, HOW can you find and live the above three Divine goals for your life? I address each of these goals separately on the following pages. Please follow the link below to the next subject.
